Conference and public meeting in Faridpur
Nirmul Committee of Faridpur held its first district conference on 4 June 06 at the conference room of Hotel Rafail in the city. More than 300 representatives from 8 Thanas and 10 Union Committees attended the conference. Seven central leaders including Shahriar Kabir, acting president Sculptor Ferdousi Priobhashini, Educationist Shamoly Nasrin Chowdhary and Prof. Muntassir Mamoon, Vice presidents of NC, Kazi Mukul, the General Secretary addressed the conference. Leaders from different Thana chapters presented organizational reports, while a 35 member new executive committee was formed in the conference.
The main speaker Shahriar Kabir asked the organizers to set up NC committees at every Union by next October and start workshops and discussion programs with the new voters in order to educate them about history and spirit of the liberation war and anti-people role of present govt.
Later NC Faridpur Chapter brought out a colourful procession with banners, placards led by the local freedom fighters, family members of the martyrs along with the central leaders. In the afternoon a grand public rally was arranged at the city centre. The rally was addressed by the central leaders along with local leaders of different pro-liberation political parties and socio-cultural organizations. The meeting was presided over by Freedom fighter Mahbub ur Rahman, ended with screening of two films on liberation War. Next day main headings of the local dailies were NC conference and rally, first time organized in Faridpur.
Conference and public meeting of Shamnagar
Muktijuddher Shahid Smriti Pathagar (Liberation War Martyrs' Memorial Liberary) of Shamnagar held its annual conference on 5 June at Upajalla auditorium of the town.
Writer journalist Shahriar Kabir Acting president of NC was the Keynote speaker, while veteran Journalist Kamal Lohani, advisor of Central NC was the chief guest of the conference.
Delegates and observers from 11 Union Council attended the conference, which was presided over by Prof Manabendra Debnath.
In the keynote speech Shahriar Kabir asked local organizers of the libraries to arrange discussion programs, workshops, film and cultural shows on a regular basis in each of the Union of Shamnagar. It is to the noted that present MP of Shamnagar is from Jamat-e Islami, who is mainly responsible for persecution of Hindus of this area. 40% population of Shamnagar is from Hindu community.
Nirmul Committee of Shamnagar arranged a public meeting in the afternoon, which was attended by a huge numbers of the victims of minority persecution. Asim Mridha a local chairman of UC was not spared just because of his Hindu faith. Mr. Asim nrarrated how gangsters of Jamat and BNP chopped his face with sharp knife and daggers.
Writer journalist Shahriar Kabir said, as long as present 4 party alliance remain in power, minority persecution and rise of Islamic militancy will not stop. He urged to vote for the candidates of secular democratic parties.
Journalist Kamal Lohani Called for a greater alliance against the BNP-Jamat led alliance govt. in order to defeat them in the next election.
He farther added, if we could assure free and fair election BNP-Jamat led alliance will be wiped away.
The public meeting was chaired by freedom fighter Ashiq Elahi, principal of a local collage, while addressed by the central and local leaders, including three VC chairmen.
