Jote, woemn activist Shirin Akhter, convener of Nari Sangram Committee and
Local leaders of the civil society. Mohiuddin Ahmed, the Mayor of Chittagong
was the chief guest of the rally, which was attended by more than fifty thousand
people came from different part of the city with colourful banners and festoons.
About the rally Mayor Mahiuddin Ahmed said, this grand rally was not organized
by any political party. Citizens from all walks of life came here to express
their grievances against the four party alliance govt. The speakers of the
rally who came from Dhaka are not only well reputed in Bangladesh but also
known in the international arena for their contribution in respective areas.
Writer journalist Shahriar Kabir said, 'Combined Citizens' Movement' a federal
body of nearly hundred socio-cultural-professional and human rights organizations
is going to lunch an all out movement for resignation of CEC MA Jalil and
his associates. The alliance govt. led by Khaleda-Nizami incited more than
hundred Islamic Militant organizations to destroy secular democratic spirit
of Bangladesh's liberation war. Khaleda Zia is playing with the highly venomous
snake of fundamentalism, at the end that won't spare even her.
Prof. Anupam Sen, president of the rally said, if we want to resist fundamentalism
and communalism we have to reinstate '72's constitution that adopted secularism
as one of the four basic principle of People's Republic of Bangladesh.
'Combined Citizens' Movement' (CCR) was formed in 2 August '06 at a conference
to unmask present govt., to build up awareness among the people regardings
their day to day problem and to launch a movement against Islamic militancy,
communal persecution and gross violation of human rights. CCM will hold the
next rally in Rajshahi, which will be followed by other rallies in different
divisional head quarters including the capital.
